Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's an island that's to the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to every aspect of the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is commonly known as the place where she was born. But she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I grew out of male companions, that's when I gave up. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school which led her in the right direction. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor in Season 1 and only appeared at times.
